The history of NIMIT
The Nachiketa Institute of Management and Information Technology (NIMIT), Jabalpur, established in 2012, is a growing center of higher education affiliated with Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya and recognized by AICTE. The college offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, and Information Technology, providing students with both academic knowledge and practical exposure.
The institute occupies a compact campus of approximately 1.5 acres, with a built-up area. Equipped with modern classrooms, computer labs, a well-stocked library, and co-curricular facilities, NIMIT focuses on holistic development and industry-oriented learning.

Who is Nachiketa ?
A seeker of true knowledge, Nachiketa was a brilliant young sage of the Vedic era. He was the son of King Vajashrava. When his father organized the Vishwajit Yajna (a sacrifice aimed at donating all possessions), at the end of the ritual, King Vajashrava began giving away his wealth and possessions to the invited priests and guests. Observing this, young Nachiketa noticed that his father was offering old and unfit cows as gifts those that were of no use.
Nachiketa approached his father and asked, “Father, to whom will you give me as a gift?” He repeated this question three times. Irritated, his father replied in anger, “I give you to Yama (the god of death)!”
Obediently, the young sage Nachiketa went to the abode of Yama. There, he waited for three days without food or water until Yama returned. Pleased by his patience and steadfastness, Yama granted him three boons. For his third boon, Nachiketa asked Yama to reveal the truth about what happens after death.
Impressed by Nachiketa’s unwavering determination to seek the truth, Yama explained to him the secret of the soul’s immortality and the nature of ultimate reality. This knowledge, known as the Nachiketa Vidya, became a guiding light for seekers on the path of truth, showing that true wisdom lies in the renunciation of transient material possessions and the pursuit of eternal truth.
Our Legacy
Inspired by the vision of Swami Vivekananda, our college strives toward its objectives through various academic and extracurricular activities. Nachiketa Institute of Management and Information Technology was established in 2005 under the leadership of Shri Rajesh Pratap Singh. He felt the need for such an institution when he observed that students from the rural areas around Chhindwara were deprived of higher education in arts, commerce, and science streams. Motivated by Vivekananda’s ideals, he laid the foundation of Nachiketa College, beginning with Arts and Commerce streams, with Dr. (Mrs.) G.R. Chandra appointed as the first Principal. Today, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Science, Computer Science, and Commerce, in addition to various skill-development courses.
The college focuses on imparting quality education with practical learning. It currently educates over 1,400 students, supported by 13 permanent faculty members. Following the co-education (Co-Ed) system, the college offers education from the undergraduate to postgraduate levels. It runs three faculties—Arts, Commerce, and Science—along with Computer Science, offering 60 subject combinations, 4 undergraduate programs, 7 postgraduate programs, certificate courses in yoga, GST training, English speaking, personality development, and 25 diploma courses under various vocational programs.
Along with academic excellence, the college emphasizes overall personality development through moral values and guidance from experienced faculty. Students have consistently excelled at the university level in academics, sports, and cultural activities. To nurture leadership and teamwork, students participate in activities like debates, quizzes, essay competitions, elocution contests, dance, singing, sports, and volunteer work.
The college prepares students for modern challenges, ensuring they are ready for life beyond academics. The “Joy of Giving” program instills social responsibility and empathy in students. They actively participate in social activities such as tree plantation, cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, road safety awareness, disaster management, gender equality campaigns, traffic awareness, and health camps.
Through cultural programs and skill development activities, the youth are guided toward becoming responsible citizens. The college hosts various events such as annual day celebrations, sports meets, seminars, and workshops. Students are trained in computer skills, employability skills, and professional ethics to prepare them for the competitive world.
For the holistic growth of students, the college organizes co-curricular and extracurricular activities like community service, women empowerment programs, career counseling, vocational training, and workshops. Through these initiatives, the college continues to live up to its motto “Leader in Quality Education” and strives to achieve excellence in every field.
